A month prior to the race I was signed up early to ensure I received my free shirt. I began writing out my check and thought why not ask Ray and see if he'd like to join in the fun of running 3.1 miles. He thought for a few seconds and replied with "yeah go ahead and sign my up too". I ensured that he wanted to run and he was sure, so I went ahead filled in his form, wrote out his check and mailed out the forms.
As the race was getting closer I was training either every day or every other day. I would go for a jog and rotate the distances so I wouldn't wear myself out or I would ride my bike and again ride different distances to work my leg muscles. Ray on the other hand, racing isn't really his thing, so training wasn't in his cards either. Not that he's not in shape he is, but running or riding bike every day isn't his form of relaxation.
Race day was here: Saturday October 19th. I always get nervous on race day mornings, trying to pick the right outfit that makes you look good which will help you run better and faster. It's also the other runners, gazing through the crowd trying to spot out the fast runners hoping you can keep up with them. That is what I normally do when racing but this time was different. I kept at my own pace, didn't stop, and didn't wear myself out like I was going to die at the end. I did have my watch on that was timing me the whole way, I only looked at it once and noticed I was making good time. My goal normally is 30 minutes or under and I made it in 30:23 minutes.
Till our next race!
