Have any of you ever had a flat tire

On your way home, from far away, about 3 hours to be exact, in the rain, muggy and the humidity so HOT you can't stand it.

Well this had happened to me this past Sunday coming home from Camden to Anderson. Let me give you some background on my car...here goes.

My car really hadn't been the same since I drove it to Florida last year for my granny's funeral. I know that sounds bad to say but its true. They had a terrible storm with lots of water on the roads and my Ford Taurus driving through all the water wasn't good. Steering went out, serpentine belt fell off and etc.

After the funeral, my dad, uncles and cousins all fixed my car. But the belt was never the same but it started, which was a good thing. It got us back home to South Carolina safe and sound.

Time goes by and new serpentine belts get put on and it still squeaks. By spring time. I get out of work from Java City, go out to my car and it won't start. Call Ray, he comes, again its raining, its late about 2am to be exact, and it won't start. The next morning have to call a tow truck and its back in the shop. A new starter.

Pick it up so excited to have my car back. Leave it sitting in the driveway go back to the car to go somewhere and it won't start again. So then our mechanic came by to get it and back in the shop it goes...find out it needs a new starter.

Few months go by...Actually a couple of weeks ago to be exact. Was at Barb's house visiting and I was getting ready to leave and my car wouldn't start again. Thinking it had to be the heat. I was going to wait to see if it would start later. But being that Ray was in Camden, Bill in Texas, us girls weren't sure what to do. Ray had thought the battery was dead, but I don't know how to use the jumper cables. Didn't want to screw up the car even more. So I called our mechanic again and he came to Barb's house. It was the battery, he said it was corroded. He just tightened it and it started. Didn't charge me, which was nice, but felt bad he drove all that way on such a hot day to help me. Thanks Wayne.

So this brings me to the flat. Again, this past Sunday driving back to Anderson to help out with VBS. My car had been acting funny anyway, always shaking, the sensor kept saying the doors weren't closed. But I didn't really check anything to make sure. Such as: under the hood, tires, fluid levels or etc and neither did Ray.

I'm on I20 just before Two Notch Road and my car is making this funny noise. I notice the noise because this is happened to me before. So I try to make it to the exit instead of pulling off the highway. I made it to the Exxon gas station, get out, and see my FLAT TIRE.

Immediately I call Ray to tell him whats happened. He says "Don't you have road side assistance on your insurance". I say "Yeah I think so". So he recommends me to call them because he doesn't have the tools to change my tire. I instantly gotten mad because I felt like he is my husband he should change my tire. But he says "I'm not here all the time to help you so you have to figure out what to do on your own". Again I was mad when he said that. But again, thinking about it he is right. I'm always used to being the youngest, just calling someone and having them fix my problems. Now that I'm grown up, live away from home, its time for me to figure out what to do. And Ray made me see that.

Called our insurance to make sure I had road side assistance, and yes I did. They gave me numbers close to where I was. Immediately called the first one, he said he was on his way and he only took cash. Now, I only had about $10 on me, and he charged $55. I was talking back and forth to Ray about what was going on. He said "go in the gas station because they usually have ATM's". So I did. You would not believe this, the ATM was broken!

So, called Ray to tell him. He came to stop at an ATM so I could pay the man for changing my tire. After, the new tire was on Ray helped me make sure all my other tires had enough air in them. They did!

Thanks Ray for helping me and pushing me to be more independent and not rely on you all the time.

Monday morning it was time to get four new tires and to get my car aligned. Hadn't had my car aligned probably since the day we got it four years ago. Thinking that was how I got a flat.

Now got my car back, new tires, car aligned, car wash, vacuumed out, new car freshener and loving driving it.

Even though I was very upset about this incident I think I learned a lot through it. Isn't that funny how God works sometimes.

Love y'all
Bubba
