Awaken VBS

The A-Team

Awaken church is between Columbia and Camden. They are a new church hosting their first VBS. Their church is held at Polo Road Elementary school which is where VBS was held. Their camp was only three days, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings.

Sunday, the first day! All the volunteers were excited to see what God in store. The kids started arriving between 4:15 and 4:30. As we got all the kids into their age groups it was time for VBS to begin. Sam one of the leaders lead the big group with bible story and worship.

Then it was time to interact with the kids. We began outside on the soccer field. With about 15 preschoolers, about 100 degree weather, and two coaches to teach them soccer techniques. The kids did really well with listening and doing. But they were ready to go inside.

Went inside for more activities. We introduced the bible story of Moses and prayed. We played duck duck goose but instead of saying duck duck goose we said basket basket ball, since our theme was sports. Then it was outside for bubbles and chalk. The kids had a great time.

Being that most of them didn't get their afternoon naps they were getting hungry and tired. It was time for snack: bananas, pretzels and water. When all the kids were done eating it was back to soccer with the coaches, but know we were inside.

Then before you knew it...it was time go home. All the kids had a great time the first day! Ready for day two.

Day Two of VBS

Today all our activities would be inside. Was great for the adults and for the children. Our sport for today was basketball. Again we had two coaches that taught the preschoolers the fundamentals. The kids learned how to dribble, shoot, throw, and that 2 is better than 1.

Later on we had our snack, bible story time, balloon games, and more basketball tips and tricks. The kids enjoyed learning basketball and learning about Jesus.

I enjoyed being able to be a part of the VBS! We had about 55 kids attend and about 25 of them were kids that already attend our church.

Our pastor: Jay, had told us one of the older kids while being in the team huddles said this was the first time he had ever heard of Jesus. That really hit home. Growing up in a Christian home you assume kids know of him but they don't. Jay also said now is the time to show them Jesus and teach them. Statistically it is better to win them over to Christ now than when they are 18!

I hope and pray that we will have more families coming back to Awaken on Sunday mornings for worship.
