Awaken Church

I had told y'all I would let you know how our visit was at Awaken and here it goes.

The church is about a 25 minute drive from Camden. The service is held at Polo Elementary School. They have one room set aside just for the service. When we arrived there were people outside welcoming everyone, and there was a first time visit station set up outside with a FREE gift for us. We got our gift and went in the school ready for worship. The worship was lead by four boys probably between 15-19. It was a more contemporary service which is what I am used to. The pastor was great! He was straight to the point.

The sermon was on baptism, questions asked from the members. Is it required to go into heaven?

Here is the answers the pastor had given:

-Obedient
-Symbolism
-Water signifies judgment
-Underwater, buried your old life
-Rescued out of judgment
-Washed and cleansed of sin
-Repenting
-Raised to walk in a new way of life
-Identify with Jesus
-Romans 1:16, Not ashamed of the gospel

Here are some questions he had asked us:

Are you baptized?
If not, why?
What would prevent you from being baptized?
Would say yes to him and follow him?

Today, he had already planned on baptizing 2 people, he asked us all again if anyone else would like to be baptized. Also, he planned it pretty well for people NOT to refuse. He had bags with extra clothes for women and men. He also had makeup for women and hairdryers. This made it impossible for anyone to say NO! After the prayer and the last worship song...There was 6 people that decided they wanted to be baptized! Isn't that AMAZING!!! WE WERE ALL EXCITED.

Where they did the baptizing was outside in front of the elementary school in a little tub, about the size of a hot tub. As each one went into the pool, went underwater, and came up we were all cheering and clapping.

It was a wonderful experience and a wonderful church. We really enjoyed it and will defiantly go back next time. I had signed up to help out with VBS in the end of July.

Hope y'all have a great week
