An Uninvited Visitor/Hit and Run
Have you ever had telemarketers calling you wanting to sell you junk? Or have those rainbow vacuum people show up at your door step hoping that they can sell you one of their high dollar priced cleaning machines? Or have some one stop at your door wanting to come in to show you a presentation about travel hoping you will join the pyramid.
Yes never thought this would happen to me but it just did only 2 weeks ago. We were both invited to have dinner with friends a local restaurant that would soon be closing. They were said to be known for chicken wings so we were stoked and ready to eat. Our friends would be meeting at our place and then we would drive separately to the restaurant. 6:30 was here followed by a knock on the door. Little did we know stood our friend and 1 person we had never met or knew from Adam.
The unknown friend was holding a computer case and asked to come in because he needed an outlet. Ray and I look at each other stunned in disbelief. What is going on? So we didn't say anything we made our way back inside to show our unknown friend where the outlet was. He gets comfortable at the table opens up his laptop, doesn't even introduces himself and begins with his presentation. Now you may be asking yourselves, why didn't we just throw them out. Well for a couple of reasons, I had recently applied to a company where our friend works and we didn't want to be rude.
So we sat quietly listening to his long boring presentation. Needless to say we were both starving, since we would be eating by now and all we could think about was chicken wings.During this presentation I happened to glance at the total number of slides and he had 80 more to go. I was hoping it would end soon but an hour and half later it was over. Then he asked if we wanted to sign up since it was a great way to make extra cash. We both thought yeah right, no thanks.
Finally, 8:00 was dinner time. We made it to the restaurant packed full of all the regulars and with us it being our first time we were the outsiders. Our friend sits down, the waitress takes his order, brings his drink before we even have a menu or before the waitress has the decency to even talk to either one of us. So our friend is now eating, drinking, and we sit waiting to give the lady our orders. By the time we received our food our friend was already finished eating and tipsy too. So here we are 30 minutes later finally eating, inhaling our food, and our friend just sits there happy as can be like nothing is wrong.
The night is getting late and the restaurant is clearing out. As we make our way to pay our bill, yes we had to pay our own bill on top of our night. All I can say is how rude! So we pay, make our way out to the parking lot our vehicle is one of the last two standing. We make our way closer hoping to be home and relax on the couch. But no because someone just hit my taillight broke it all to pieces and are all scattered in the parking lot.
So we go back into the restaurant to call the police so we can file a report for our insurance company. Being that where the restaurant was, out in the middle of no where, it took about 30 minutes just waiting on him. I do have to say when I walked out to "Vince" (my car) saw pieces everywhere and to know that whomever hit my vehicle didn't even have the courtesy to come back into the restaurant, I was furious. We waited patiently for the highway patrol officer to arrive as I cooled off.
We've had our insurance look at our vehicle, they've given us an estimate with a written check to fix poor Vince. Its not back to normal yet but will be real soon. So if you ever have a salesman show up at your door step you may want to think twice before you let him/her inside.
