The last day of 2013 has come and gone like it was only 2 days ago. People normally have big parties with friends and family to bring in the new year. Some drink too much some are sober and some people are happy with just being themselves without any help with a drink. New Years Eve is one of the biggest holidays and scariest for drivers on the road. Due to the crazy drivers we decided to have our own party wearing ugly Christmas Sweaters, while bringing in the Irish New Year which was at 7pm, so our friends wouldn't have to drive home so late.
Normally a New Year's Eve party has party food, you know finger food but my party had a different feel to it. My plan was to cook a full dinner since we didn't have a Christmas dinner. I wanted to have one with our friends. Ray's work provided us with a turkey for Thanksgiving which was nice so I didn't need to buy one. Being this was my first take at cooking a turkey in the oven I was a little nervous. My dad did suggest using a bag because it always keeps the turkey moist and doesn't dry them out which worked thanks dad! Then I made holiday mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing balls wrapped with bacon, and dessert was blueberry delight. I was thrilled how everything turned out especially my turkey!
Prior to chowing down this wonderful meal I prepared we said a prayer of thankfulness and thankfulness for another day and another year. We all got in line buffet style to fill our plates . During our meal we each interacted and got to know each other a little better. Our friends Steve and Deborah are bird watchers and we got to hear what birds they saw on their recent vacation in Delaware. Before we knew it was time for seconds and then dessert. Everyone was pleased with my cooking and I was just as stunned myself.
Time was approaching 7PM and it was getting closer to countdown to the Irish New Year. We each got our New Years gear on and each had a blower in our hand. It wasn't long and we were counting down, 10, 9, 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Happy New Year. We each told each other Happy New Year, toasted our glasses, gave hugs and had one last drink to celebrate!
Sure sounds like you guys brought the new year in the right way -- always nice to be with friends and get to know your neighbors a little bit better!! And Bubba you shouldn't have been so surprised that you meal turned out delicious because you ARE A WONDERFUL COOK!! you and Paula Dean make for a very good couple in the kitchen!!! and you had better 'google' that lizard man and be prepared to 'tell the story' back in the cabin next time you are home when its not deer season -- they frown on us being back there making all kinds of girlie noises when its deer season!!! Again you've done a great job with your blog and I want to thank you so much for keeping us northerners up to date of yourselves!!!
