My New Job

As a WAITRESS at Texas Roadhouse! Would you ever guess that I would be a waitress? Well I never thought I would be. I mean I was kind of one at Mancinos back in Carson City where I worked during high school but it doesn't compare to working at a big restaurant.

I began at Texas Roadhouse on September 2nd with orientation. Basically, filling out paperwork, giving them my availability, you know all the necessary things before you start a new job. Then, the manager gave me all the study guides in order to pass all the tests. Seeing and hearing all the tests I had to take I was getting overwhelmed. Had to take a server test (general knowledge a server should know), a menu test (had to know the whole menu), and the alcohol test (had to know how to up sell a drink, kinds of wine and etc.).

Started Monday September 6 on Labor Day my first day of training. The first couple of days I trained with Jodi. During the first day she realized the manager had given me the wrong study guides. While our time together she gave me pop up quizzes which really helped me to study and remember.

Wednesday I got a new trainer since I worked the lunch shift. His name was Bobby, he was very good at his job, quite the ladies man (thought he was God's gift to women), but good at his job, remembers everyone's order without writing it down which to me was pretty impressive. As a trainer he wasn't the best. A good thing about this day was that I finally got the new recent study guide book. Was ready to study since I had to take my test on Saturday the 11th.

Thursday was my last day of training with again a new trainer, her name was Molly. She was the sweetest best trainer I have had. She was very helpful. She got an old test was able to ask me questions from the test so I knew what I had to work on. The manager that was on gave me the opportunity to take me test on Monday since I had just gotten the new study guide yesterday. Which I was so excited since that gave me the option to go to Brittney's Sweet 16th Birthday and more time for me to study.

Well, Monday evening finally rolled around and it was time to take the test. To stay the least I was very nervous from my past experiences with tests, it usually doesn't end up good. The first test I took was the server test and I zipped right through it, next was the menu test (did good, but got help from Jodi on a couple), then the alcohol test (the manger let Jodi help me since I did good on the first two tests) which was a big relief to me because I didn't know much.

After taking all my tests Jodi asked me when I could start on the floor alone? Was a good sign, meant that I PASSED! Was so excited. My first day alone was Tuesday September 14th. I only worked from 4-9PM and made $20, (not so good but again it was my first day). My next day was Thursday the 16th worked the lunch shift for only 2 1/2 hours due to me leaving early to pick up the Nelson kids from school (my other job). This day I only made $13.00 not good but I didn't get that many tables.

Starting my first week on my own here is what I made:

Sunday: $73
Monday: $21
Tuesday: $50
Wednesday: $21
Thursday: OFF
Friday: OFF
Saturday: $68
Total: $233

Hoping I'll continue to make lots of tips.
Love y'all Bubba
