I know what your thinking Spring Break thats not for older married couples who are no longer in school. It may come as a surprise to you that adults can still take a spring break. And thats just what this couple did 2 weeks ago in the sunshine state. It wasn't just us adults it was Ray's side of the family too.
Our vacation was planned last fall so all we were waiting for was the day to arrive for our spring break to begin. Before we knew it, it was here and we were packing our bags as well as our beach bag and bikes. Friday morning we began our road trip to our sunny destination for the whole week.
During our road trip the town/state that stood out the best to us was Alabama. You may ask why? And I will tell why because they seemed like they were stuck in the past 20 years ago, still had pay phones at the gas station, the apparel that people were wasn't up to date in todays world and it was something you would never forget.
We arrived at our destination early evening just in time to enjoy the sunshine and the hot. Yes thats right folks this house was magnificant! It had four bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, a sauna, pool, hot tub, pool table, foosball table, large deck out back, golf cart, and a deck over looking the front of the house. It was a perfect place to meet up with family for a week long vacation.
After setting in we ordered in Chinese food by the time it arrived it was 10:30 and we were starving. The chinese guy that delivered the food was persistant on getting a tip even though we though we thought we paid for it online he again said "no tip" so Ray went ahead and gave him a tip.
Saturday was when the rest of the family was going to arrive. We went to pick Shawn and Josh up from the airport early afternoon. Shortly after Marie, Craig and the kids had arrived too. After playing a few card games it wasn't long till Bill arrived. We were all happy and excited to see everyone and most of all to be on vacation.
Sunday was a foggy gloomy morning but the weather wasn't too hot which made it perfect. After my morning bike ride we all took a stroll down to the beach. The kids were loving looking for seashells and wished that it was warmer so they could play and get in te water. But us adults knew it wouldn't be long. It wasn't long till the weather took a turn and the rain began pouring in and left us adults to playing cards and the kids watching their favorite movie Frozen.
Since the day was gloomy and rainy most of us decided to head to thrift stores to see what we could find. We each found our own treasures then we had dinner on our minds. We were all set on sushi but the nearest sushi restaurant was too expensive so we hit up the Publix for sushi.
Most of our group went to the airplane museum and out to eat. But the McCallister's stayed back to relax. Later that afternoon all the girls went to the outlet mall for some bonding time and great shopping.
Tuesday was yet another gloomy day, but most of our group didn't let that stop them enjoying an adventure by going to the zoo. Shawn, Josh, Ray and I stayed back to relax and to enjoy playing games with one another.
Wednesday was our first perfect weather for the beach. Even though it was still windy at the house we waited till lunchtime to get all gear and head to the beach. The weather at the beach was perfect hot too hot but windy gave us a nice breeze and most of all the kids loved playing in the sand and the water. It was a fun beach day for all. Dinner was prepared by Pizza Hut.
Thursday was another gorgeous day to be out in the sun having fun. Today Bill took us out on his old "Screamer" speed boat. It was fantastic! The kids were having a blast down under popping their heads through the pop window and us adults enjoyed the sunshine too. We found an island to beach the boat and for us to enjoy the sun and most of all enjoy conversation with each other. Later that night Bill grilled dinner, chicken, shrimp, potatoe salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, potatoes, french fries, and dessert was ice cream.
We ended the night with watching the sunset. Well I guess you could say we tried to watch the sunset because we were on the wrong end to see it go down but we enjoyed taking pictures together.
Friday was our last time with Bill, Marie, Craig and the kids since they were leaving today. Shawn made sure we got a family photo before anyone left which I greatly appreciate. After we said our goodbyes to Bill the rest of us went to the gator place to see live baby gators. The establishment was as entertaining as we hoped but the kids enjoyed seeing the gators even if they didn't feed them or touch them. After the gators we went to another outlet mall that had Bass Pro and met for lunch at Hard Rock Cafe.
Shortly after lunch it was back to our beach house for one last night. We said our goodbyes to Marie, Craig and the kids. And then were 4 left at the house. We enjoyed playing Josh's new card game. Prior to going out for dinner we made sure to go see the sunset by driving the golf cart to the right beach to see it go down this time. While being there we enjoyed Shawn taking our pictures too! (thanks Shawn for being our photographer).
Being that it was our last night out together we decided to go out to a nice restaurant which we chose Sumo. We decided not to sit at the table where they cook right in front of you because we thought it would be cheaper, it wasn't and the food wasn't as good. But we had a good time together.
Saturday was our last half day with family then it was back on the road home to reality. We each got our bags packed in the Volvo, had breakfast, and before we knew it, it was time to take Shawn and Josh to the airport. Then there were 2 headed toward home down the country roads taking the back way home.
A special thanks to our family for spending Spring Break with us and we hope to do something like this next year. We wish you all the best!
Love Bubba and Ray
