Our First Visitor

The McCallister's don't normally have many visitors so when my niece Ashley said she was coming, it made me very happy. We hadn't been to in our new home not even a week and we were getting our first visitor. It didn't bother me, but I warned her that there may be boxes around that need unpacking. She called me when she left her house and gave me updates as she got closer to Camden. We met for lunch at McDonalds, then headed home to the lake. Shortly after we got home Ray was home too. We had tacos for dinner.

Ray took us ladies out for a boat ride. We went to the first island we saw, left the boat on shore, and got out to explore. We didn't find anything too exotic or bizarre worth writing about but it was an island that looked like it would be a good place to do bad things! After leaving the island, Ray took us around the other side then back home.

Ashley and Ray fished off of the dock as I made homemade chocolate chip cookies for dessert. This was Ashley's first time fishing. She was excited and anxious to catch a fish. When she did she ran inside all excited saying "Bubba I caught a fish come take pictures". So I rushed out of the house camera in hand ready to see what she caught and got it documented. Before I made it back in the house to finish my baking she said "Wait Bubba I caught another one", so yet again camera out and it was documented too!

Tuesday Ray only worked a half day to spend the afternoon with Ashley and I. After he got home, it was straight to the dock to do some serious fishing. Ashley was ready to catch a big fish. As they fished I sat on the dock too reading. It wasn't long and Ashley had a bite, a big bite, her pole was folding over like it was going to break, she said "Ray OMG I have a big one help me" and he replied with "You got it you can do it"! And she reeled it in and it was a very big catfish, her first big fish she ever did catch and she was very proud and so was her Aunt Bubba.

Then it was time for Ashley to see how the cleaning process was done. She was intrigued how it was done and ended up cleaning the filets so they were ready to be cooked. Ray fried the fish and I made some side dishes. It was the freshest fish all of us have ever had and it was delicious!

After dinner it was time to get ready and head into town for Ray's church league softball game. They played a great game and won!

Thanks Ashley for visiting your Aunt Bubba and Uncle Ray, your always welcomed anytime and I hope you come more often.

  1. What a wonderful vacation for Ashley -- catching her first fish and then being able to clean it and eat it all in the same day!!! You are so gifted in documenting the whole day -- it always makes the reader feel like they were 'right there' watching the whole thing happen!!! GREAT JOB BUBBA!! love ya
