Mixon Family Vacation

The first annual Mixon Family Vacation has come and passed so quickly. Each family member drove to Tybee Island, not worrying about miles or distance.Cousins meeting each other for the first time. Groceries weren't purchased yet when we arrived, so we all decided to go out for dinner. Not knowing what was around we trusted our GPS's to find our way, which ended up leading us down some dead end streets, to no longer working restaurants  and to restaurants with no vehicles at them leading us to believing the restaurant was no good. Then lead us to a great BBQ place called Papas.

Easter dinner was celebrated at Paula Deens Resturant. We all enjoyed her mouth watering fried chicken that kept us going back for more. After lunch the kids enjoyed playing in the water fountain. As we made our way back to the beach house the warmth of the sun was calling us all to relax at the beach. The water was cold but it wasn't stopping anyone from getting in. A late night dinner was delivered by Lighthouse Pizza. After dinner some of us made a late night run to Wal-Mart Super-center for groceries.

Monday morning we woke up to breakfast prepared by Ray: bacon, sausage and blueberry pancakes. After a hearty breakfast Ray and I were tourists riding around the island on our bikes. When we arrived back to our beach house, we helped the kids Tye-Dye T-shirts. David prepared his famous BBQ ribs and chicken on the grill. Then it was back to the beach for more fun in the sun and in the ocean. This was our last night with David and the girls so we made sure to make the most of it. We got group pictures and finished the night with telling bedtime stories.

Tuesday morning was beautiful! The sunshine was out and shining. It was a great morning for a run and I wasn't going to miss it. I ran my usual 3.1 miles then it was time with the family. Some of us toured downtown Savannah while walking down on River Street seeing all the different shops they had to offer. After shopping we saw the Catholic Church, went to the famous fountain that was once purchased from a sears catalog and Norah enjoyed playing on the playground near where Tom Hanks once sat on a bench filming Forrest Gump. My family decided they were tired from walking, that they were ready to head back to the island while Ray and I decided stayed walking looking at the beautiful scenery.

Wednesday was much cooler and cloudy. All the walking we all did from Tuesday it was a nice day to stay in and relax. Ray and I played with the kids and watched the Disney movie: Wreck It Ralph. Dinner was prepared by my dad: marinated & grilled venison  green beans, corn, mac & cheese. The rest of the night was spent for ourselves rejuvenating and planning what we would do on Thursday since it was our last day and night on the island.

Thursday being our last day on the island the weather wasn't cooperating with us but none of us were gonna let that stop us. Mom & dad were going a bus tour in downtown Savannah, the Grienke's were going shopping at the outlet mall, and as for Ray and I we were looking for an adventure. We went to the Tybee Lighthouse, climbed the 174 stairs, was able to look out but wasn't able to go out when we arrived at the top due to wind and rain. But the view was incredible and worth the $10 ticket. After the lighthouse we drove in to Savannah trying to spot a new landmark or siting we've never scene before. We stepped upon this old historic home that was opened for tours. We both saw the sign open and thought why not. We started in the middle of the tour not knowing who's house this was but it was beautiful needless to say. The home was the Juliette Gordon house. Afterward, we walked on River Street and had sushi for lunch. Our last dinner was spent together telling everyone about our day full of adventures before bedtime.

Friday being our last few hours before we all had to say goodbye. Everyone cleaning and packing their vehicles. We all tried to eat at a local restaurant for breakfast called: The Breakfast Club, but due to the line being outside and the weather, it ended up being just Ray and I. We all said our goodbyes, no tears were shed but I'm gonna miss my family being together and bonding.

On our way home we stopped at the Savannah National Refuge Center. It was FREE of charge and had a beautiful scenery. There were as many birds as you could count from different species as well as several alligators and different walking trails. We weren't able to do any walking trails due to rain but next time we would like too.

 Till next time Mixon Family!
