It was only a couple of weeks ago that we got the joy and honor of celebrating Memorial Day. A holiday we as Americans do by: giving thanks to those who fought for our freedom here in America. It is a special day of remembering those who made living in America a land of the free and home of the brave. Its a time to celebrate with family and friends over a BBQ with a cold one in your hand.
Our Memorial Day celebration began Friday night after Ray arrived home from work. Within an hour or so later we were ready to get into our boat with our fishing gear and our cooler with a variety of drinks. We strolled around but didn't catch anything too big due to all the boats out on the water. But we both still had a great time!
Saturday morning was spent driving to Lancaster seeing yard sales/garage sales and grocery shopping at Aldi. We enjoy going to Aldi because its way cheaper than any other grocery store as well as having new and unique things to look at and buy. Ray found this package of potatoes it was like pasta. It was very unique worth trying and purchasing. After finding everything we needed it was time to head home to see what how Ray would make the new potatoe pasta dish.
The afternoon was spent floating around on the lake enjoying the sunshine on our floats. Afterward we fished until it was time for our date night at the local bar watching the Red Wings play. While watching the game at the bar the live band kept blowing fuses that kept the TV's going out every couple of minutes which made watching the game pretty difficult. Later on we were able to ask one of the bartenders to change the channel on a different TV that was near the bar to the game. We were able to watch it but now we weren't able to see the score due to the settings being wide-screened and it wasn't able to fit the TV. But we had a great time but were sad that the Red Wings lost.
Sunday was low key. church in the morning, cleaning up outside to get ready for our party on Monday, floating around, and some fishing. Before bedtime I prepared some dishes so I didn't have to do as much in the morning.
Monday was here and we were ready to celebrate with all our friends. After I got up I was determined to make homemade cupcakes with frosting. Even though I had already made chocolate chip cookies, deviled eggs, cornbread, and I thought the kids may enjoy a cupcake. This was my first time making them so yet I was a little nervous but I tried anyway. They were vanilla with a twist of lemon with chocolate frosting. Afterward it was last minute cleaning then ready for our visitors.
Our first visitors arrived shortly after two. Ray fired up the grill with hot dogs and hamburgers. We had several side dishes such as: watermelon, crackers with cheese and salami, deviled eggs, baked beans, corn bread and several desserts. It wasn't much later more of our visitors showed up and we all enjoyed each others company and the food.
Hope everyone had a memorable and great Memorial Day! Till next year!
